  2. About the Author • The authors name is Alexandre Dumas • He also wrote many other books, including The Three Musketeers • When he was a kid, his family was very poor , and his education was given by a priest. • In 1851, he moved to Brussels, where soon afterwards he died.

  3. Characters Edmond Dantes - Edmond, also known as The Count of Monte Cristo, is the main character of this book. He gets imprisoned for 14 years in the Chateau d'If until he makes his fabulous escape. During his imprisonment he met a rich abbe who helped him escape, who also left him the coordinates of a treasure on a lonesome island called Monte Cristo. Edmond Finds the treasure, lives the rest of his life as a rich man seeking revenge .

  4. Characters Pere Dantes – Edmonds poor old father, who in the beginning was left with enough money to buy food, but then he had to pay taxes with half of it. Dantes Imprisonment caused him to be very sad and broken hearted, so he starved himself to death

  5. Characters Morrel, a shipbuilder/owner – Morrel is a kind young man who is very nice and cares greatly for others. In the beginning, the captain to a ship dies and Morrel makes Dantes the captain of the ship. When Morrel learns Dantes is in jail he begs for is release, and after finding that Pere Edmond died, he arranged a proper funeral. After the Count finds this out later, he pays him back three fold.

  6. Characters Julie Morrel - Monsieur Morrel's daughter, who first meets the Count of Monte Cristo as "Sinbad the Sailor"; he sends her on an errand to obtain monies which will save her father's business. Maximilien Morrel - The son of Monsieur Morrel who will later become not merely a close young friend of the Count of Monte Cristo, but because of his kind spirits, soul and his devotion and loyalty, he will become the Count of Monte Cristo's "son" and the recipient of a great deal of the Count's Money.

  7. Characters Abbé Faria – He is a wise and lovable prisoner in the Chateau d'If; he is an ingenious person, possible of making some digging tools out of virtually nothing. He writes the life history of a noble Italian family. Faria is Dantes' "father" and teaches Dantes not only worldly matters of languages, science, and mathematics, but also spiritual matters. His death in the Chateau d'If makes Dantes able to escape.

  8. Characters Monsieur De Villefort – Villefort is one of he three that came up with the master plan to frame Dantes of being boneapartist. He is the sheriff in Dantes town and tells him to burn the only evidence Dantes had; a letter. He gets stabbed by an assassin because the assassin thought he had a box with treasure in it, but it turned out to be his son.

  9. Characters Danglars – As one of the three to frame Dantes as a boneapartist, this man was jealous from the very start. Danglars helped come p with the nasty plan because he wanted to be the new captain instead of Dantes, So he wrote the letter that Villefort burned with his let hand so the handwriting was unrecognizable. Later an old friend of The Count takes his 5 million francs and Danglars becomes a penniless old man.

  10. Characters Fernand Mondego– Again, Fernand is one of the three people to frame Dantes as a Boneapartist. Fernand was a simple Fisherman/Smuggler who was very jealous of Dantes because he proposed to Mercedes and they were going to get married. Dantes Trusted him though because Mercedes only loved Fernand a brother. Eventually his smuggling made him a fortune, but one day when Mercedes his wife, and her son left him, he shot himself.

  11. Characters Mercedes Herrera – She only was in love with Dantes, but hen she went to marry him he got taken away by the police for being bonepartist. While Dantes is in jail, she was very lonesome and took care of his father who was starving to death. Eventually she was pressured into marrying Fernand, When she discovers the full extent of her husband's treachery, she leaves his house without any of his wealth, and goes to live in Pere Dantes house. She is the only one that knows The Count is Dantes.

  13. Plot The Theme of this book is Vengeance Dantes is getting married Dantes goes to prison Dantes finds the treasure & becomes rich Dantes Lives with a secret identity and seeks out vengeance

  14. Summary Dantes, a tough, young sailor finally gets home from a long journey at sea in which his captain dies. Morrel wants to make him the ne captain, so Dantes is really excited and goes to his dad, he explains everything and gives him more money for food. Then Dantes Goes off to find his love, Mercedes. She is with Fernand, whom she loves like a brother. Dantes gets down and asks Mercedes to marry him.

  15. Summary Now secretly Fernand is really heartbroken and jealous because he is secretly in love with Mercedes. So that night one of Dantes’ mates named Danglars visits Fernand that night and come up with a horrible plan. Dante and Mercedes were having a wedding the next day, when all of the sudden Fenand, Danglars, and Villeforts plan went through, the police busted in and arrested Dantes.

  16. Summary They took Dantes on a boat, to a prison on an island in the ocean. They threw him in his cell, then he went berserk so thy threw him in a dungeon cell. Dantes was on the verge of starving himself to death, when he heard a tapping noise. He found out this tapping noise was another prisoner trying to escape which inspired Dantes to start digging a way out. Soon Dantes came across the Abbe, when both their holes formed a big one.

  17. Summary The Abbe taught Dantes a lot, and gave him a good education, and then he revealed his secrets bout the island of Monte Cristo all while they were making an escape plan. One day something horrible happened, the abbe died from a disease. Then while thy had hm in a body bag, Dantes took the abbes body and put it in his cell, while he slid into the body bag. The guards threw him into the ocean!

  18. Summary The next morning a ship came and picked him up; he won there hearts and took them to the island of Monte Cristo. Once there he told them to leave him and come back in a few days. After a few days Dantes had found The treasure and the ship came and picked him up. From there they dropped him off at the nearest town, where he ad a yacht built with a secret stash to hide his treasure.

  19. Summary Soon it was in the Counts head that he wanted to get revenge for those who imprisoned him and reward those who were kind to him. Dantes Ruins Fernand’s relationship for revenge, Ruins Danglars financially, and slowly reveals to Villefort that he knows about a love affair that Villefort had long ago with the present Madame Danglars.
