Project • Develop a mini NLP system • To provide a prototype system that has : • NLP elements ( NLP-engine or NLP-interface) • AI algorithm (searching/ induce/deduce/infer) or • mimic/similar to existing system with some improvement : • Dictionary • Eliza • Translation • Must involve programming/ system design (use Prolog, Java, Visual Programming)

  3. Possible area/topic • Information retrieval (web, text) • Database Interface/query • Multi-media/ Story Teller using NLP-interface • Mimic Eliza/ SHRDLU etc systems • NLP Engine: • POS-tagger • Disambiguate system • Segmentation • Dictionary • English-checker • Parser • Meaning postulate system • Machine Translation system

  4. Assessment • Proposal = 2 • System / prototype & demo = 15 • Manual – 8 ( Total = 25%) Submission & Demo: = 3rd & 4th week February

  5. Tutorial Exercise • Syntactic Analysis Parse using Top-down technique & the given CFG grammar : ‘ The old man cried ‘
