  1. Things you must know before doing a quantitative research

  2. Key points • Keep things simple • Research method • Techniques • Data collection methods • Data analysis techniques • Conclusion

  3. Introduction Research can be classified into two types; qualitative and quantitative research. In this article, we will be discussing the guidelines which can help you with your quantitative research. A qualitative research includes numbers and stats to express its findings. Quantitative research is mostly done in social sciences where numerical data is being used to extract results. Results obtain in such type of research are generally unbiased in nature.

  4. The simpler you keep your quantitative research the easier it would be to execute. It isn’t necessary that your question has to be absurdly easy for the research purpose. If your research question is difficult in its nature, it shouldn’t be a problem unless you present its’ solution in an easy way. Don’t try to present your research in form of marketing terms where difficult terms are used that couldn’t be inconceivable by the reader. 5. Research method This section includes how you are going to conduct research. This type of research is mainly conducted for market research purposes. Its focus is on to collect primary data rather than depending on the secondary data. Quantitative research can be further classified into three primary components.

  6. There are number of techniques used to implement the quantitative research. Survey research is the first type of research which uses surveys, interviews and questionnaires. Every organization requires to know what its customers thinks about their products and services. This research can either be conducted within a specific audience or to a random group of people. It is suggested to conduct this research to random respondents. Survey research was held face-to-face or via phone calls initially, but with the advancement of technology, it now uses email and online platforms for survey research.Cross-sectional survey is the type of surveys which is also known as observational surveys which is to be conducted on the sample of a population. The most benefit of this type of research is that it can analyze multiple variables at the same time. The drawback of cross-sectional survey is that it cannot bring forth cause-effect relationship. If we talk about Longitudinal Survey, then the difference lies in longitudinal and cross-sectional survey is that cross-sectional survey analyses different variables at the same time while longitudinal survey analyses different variables at different times. 7. Data collection methods Like any other research, quantitative research can also use two methods for collecting data; probability and non-probability sampling. Probability sampling is the type of sampling in which every individual has equal chance of getting selected in the sample. Probability sampling is further divided into four types: Simple random sampling Stratified random sampling Cluster sampling Systematic sampling In case of non-probability sampling, not every respondent has equal chance of getting selected in the sample size. Non-probability sampling is classified further as following: Convenience Sampling Consecutive sampling Quota sampling Snowball sampling Judgmental sampling

Non-probability sampling is classified further as following: • Convenience Sampling • Consecutive sampling • Quota sampling • Snowball sampling • Judgmental sampling

  9. Data analysis techniques After collecting data and choosing appropriate sampling methods to opt, it is now the time to undergo the data analysis. Different data analysis techniques can be used for the findings. There are different four statistical data analysis methods which starts with the swot analysis. It is the acronym of strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. It is used to evaluate the internal and external factors affecting the overall performance of the organization. Conjoint analysis is the way to solve and analyze complex purchase behaviors of individuals. Cross-tabulation is the method to form a sense of relation, trends and pattern within different variables of a study.

  10. Conclusion Research work doesn’t only require you to take a look into the research problem matter. The more important factor is to see how to approach the research question. As the research type you are going to use for conducting research will have a significant impact on the research. For the quantitative approach, make sure that you keep in mind the points discussed above so that you can get along with the research smoothly.
