District 4-H Horse Shows • 12 shows held in June • Entry deadlines in May or June • Validation Rules • Only horses validated on or before May 1 of current 4-H year are eligible. • 22 classes that are in Qualifying Divisions and 4-Her must show in at least one class in each of those Qualifying Divisions at District to be eligible for the State 4-H HorseShow. Actually competing in one class in each division will qualify that 4-Her for all classes in that same Division at the State Show. • 4-H youth may show one horse in each Qualifying Division at District Horse Shows, or the same horse in all divisions, provided any/all horse(s) were validated as projects by May 1. Validation Rules cont. • 4-H youth may show one horse in each Qualifying Division at District Horse Shows, or the same horse in all divisions, provided any/all horse(s) were validated as projects by May 1. • Futurity projects must be shown at District in order to show at State. • Futurity classes involve yearlings, two-year-olds or three-year-old horses, each futurity class is listed as a division in order to make it simpler for District 4-H Horse Show Management Teams to track. • Some Districts offer Open Division classes (also listed on page 2), but there is no Qualification process in order to be eligible to enter those classes at the State 4-H Horse Show. State 4-H Horse Show • Held in July • Entries are made at the close of each District 4-H horse show, regardless of whether a 4-Her is entering Qualifying Divisionclasses or Open Division classes. • CEA’s should notify 4-Hers that entries for non-qualifying Open Divisionclasses are also made at this time. • All State show entries are verified and handled by District Committee • Entries must be received at state horse specialists by July 1st. • Only horses validated before May 1st of the current 4-H year are eligible for show. Validation • Required by May 1st for District and/or State Show • 4-H Horse Project Validation – May 1 • Certifies that the project is owned by the 4-Her or their sibling, parent, grandparent or legal guardian. • Process validates that the horse is owned and not leased or borrowed. Validation cont. • Horses not validated on or before May 1 are ineligible for District and State 4-H Horse Shows. • Each 4-H horse project validated by a 4-Her must be accompanied by a $10 fee. • Validation form must be filled out by 4-Her for each horse being validated. • CEA office personnel will collect forms and a check from each 4-Her for $10/horse. Validation cont. • CEA offices have until May 5 to transfer the validation information and fees to the Horse Specialists’ office. • Fees will be mailed. • CEA offices will keep the Horse Validation Forms on file for one year. • Validation forms are available in the CEA Horse Newsletter (January 2008 issue). • Check(s) sent to the Horse Specialists’ office must be made out to the ‘Texas 4-H Foundation - Horse Validation.’ Mail to: Horse Specialists’ Office, Attn: Jennifer Dickerson, Kleberg 249, TAMU 2471, College Station, Tx 77843 -2471. Qualifying Division Classes • Offer 22 classes to qualify in • 4-Her must show in at least one division to ‘qualify’ for State 4-H Horse Show. • 1 horse per 4-Her • A futurity project horse must also be shown at District in order to qualify for a futurity class at the State Show. Open Division Classes – State 4-H Horse Show • 4-Her not required to show in the following Open classes in order to enter those classes at state. • Roping • Stock Horse • Hunter Over Fence • Drill/Precision Rding • Can enter 1 or more entries per 4-Her • Must however, meet validation and entry deadlines • Any 4-Her planning on entering the state but not the district horse show must contact CEA and enter prior to district horse show so they do not miss cut-off date Texas 4-H and Youth Development
