  2. In this section of the test, you are asked to look at some reference materials and then use the materials to answer some questions. Research Topic: Choosing a Career Suppose you were assigned to write a report on choosing a career. You need to find out various aspects of different careers. Six different sources of information about different careers are contained in this section of the test. The information sources are listed below.* Skim all of the resources to become familiar with the information they contain. Remember that these are reference sources, so you should not read every word in each source. Once you have skimmed these sources, answer the questions that follow. *Portions of the resources are provided on the following slides. We will view the questions first in order to locate the resource then write the page number where the resource is located.

Creative Career Choices b. “Read All About It” Now that you have performed the self-evaluation and you have a good idea of your interests and talents, the next step is to start your research (described in more detail in Chapter 3). At the end of this chapter, you will find a list of suggestions for beginning your research project, along with a list of books recommended for further reading. This project encourages you to read about careers that interest you. Your goal is to gather as much information as possible in order to start making some decisions about career directions.

I remember feeling sorry for my parents as they went to work every weekday. They left at the same time in the morning and came home at the same time in the evening. The thought of entering into a similar routine was simply unthinkable. My parents didn't have boring jobs, and I know they enjoyed their work, my father as an aeronautics engineer with NASA, and my mother as a teacher. But the idea of the robotic routine of daily toil put me off getting a regular job for a long time. Oh, I worked: as a waitress, cooking for hundreds of campers at a mountain summer camp, as a tutor, as a lifeguard, even on the swing shift at a local candy factory. But I avoided the 9 to 5 as if it were a contagious disease.
