Setting up • Sit in a semi-circle, horseshoe or circle. • Set RULES: • Look at the person who is talking. • Share thoughts with whole group. • Respect the opinions of others. • Only one person speaking at a time. • Keep positive • Not personal

Thinking Time • In response to the stimulus, Give children: • Time to think and discuss • Draw or • Make notes Use a P4C Thinking Journal or Whiteboards (evidence)
Questions • In pairs, individuals or groups • Children present the questions, the Facilitator records them on a board or flipchart. • Children make connections between questions. • In groups children compile a question which seems to cover the main aspects. • Facilitator writes amended questions (3 or 4) • 1 question to discuss more fully – agreed by voting, consensus or decision by Facilitator.
Debate • Discuss or debate the chosen question. • The Facilitator keeps discussion ‘on track’ – not leading but punctuating with relevant questions. • FINALLY • The Facilitator brings the discussion to an end • Any final thoughts? • Summarise the thinking and the discussion that has taken place.
