VISION To create a safe living environment guided by the envisaged spatial structure of the region, that will strengthen the social fabric of communities, will enhance environmental sustainability and will improve access to a range of economic opportunities. This vision will be jointly pursued by all prominent stakeholders within the spirit of co-operative governance and public- private partnerships.

Social Development Program (1) • Intensive ABET Programme • Building of new schools in priority areas • Identify suitable site for building of a new police station in the study area (3 options to consider namely: Freedom Park, Kanana or Photsaneng) • Building of new clinics • Provide basic sport and recreation facilities accessible to the majority of residents within the study area

Social Development Program (2) • Increase available resources (human, financial, technical) at existing police stations. • Provide appropriate formal cemeteries • Intensive HIV/AIDS awareness & information program. • Feasibility study regarding the availability and accessibility of appropriate welfare and childcare facilities in the study area.

Economic Development Program • Compile register of all small & informal businesses & develop training & skills development programme • Compile register of skills relating to construction activities • Implement information dissemination campaign regarding available SMME support and skills development programmes • Feasibility study on waste collection and recycling initiatives in study area settlements. • Identification of suitable land for urban agriculture projects

  33. ICT • TELKOM & SENTECH will be directly liaising with the Department of Communication • TELKOM is undertaking an extensive audit of all the candidate cities, incl. Rustenburg, to assess the current ICT capability and identify areas where upgrading of bandwidth is required • SENTECH is also part of the operations that TELKOM will be carrying out in respect to transmitters

ICT • Coverage of cellular telephone networks is extensive and will be able to carry extra load of international roaming subscribers • Banking Services: all banks are part of the national networks, and accept electronic EMV( Euro Master Visa) • Pool matches during the 1995 RWC was broadcast to international audiences from Rustenburg

Transportation • N4 Platinum corridor • District Integrated Transport Plan finalised • RLM has also finalized its Integrated Transport plan • The BPDM also has launched a District wide Transport forum with a view to responding to the challenges of 2010 • Upgrading of the taxi rank to put 40 shops ( private initiative) • R 5m Department of Transport for taxi upgrading • National and provincial initiative on the taxi recapitalisation

  36. Transportation • Air: • there are two (2) airports in the district. One (1) Pilanesberg International Airport & a local Rustenburg aerodrome • Road: • Two (2) bus companies with more than ten formal & non-formal ranking facilities • Two car hire depots • Taxis – more than 3000 taxis (RSA type minibuses) • Rail • Five (5) established train station in the district • Discussion to link existing rail networks with GAUTRAIN

Transportation • Road Networks: • tenders will soon be invited for widening of road between Sun City & Phokeng • Rustenburg-Krugersdorp-Johanesburg road to be addressed by the Province • Integrated Transport Plan Capital Budget has been submitted to National Department • Lanseria to Hartebeespoortdam corridor will be addressed by SANRA & GAUTRANS jointly, to link it to the N4 • The RWC & WSSD traffic have been handled without any negative incidents

Safety and Security • Safety and Security • The Safety & Security plans will be integrated into the National Commissioners of the SAPS’s plans to secure the event • The City Police Department will also be established fully by the end of September 2005 to add to the security apparatus within the city • Emergency Services, Disaster Management and Medical Facilities • Emergency Services, Disaster Management & medical plans are also in place • These are coordinated across the District as the event will be elevated to take a District perspective • Volunteer Programme • The Programme will encompass youth, students, and unemployed • This will build on the foundations of the 1995 RWC Programme

Safety and Security • Number of City Police: 250 operating in 6 policing precincts by 2008 • All the six (6) precincts will be operating on a 24/7 basis • Number of vehicles, incl. motorbikes for the City Police: 200 by 2008 • Currently there are 25 CCTV covering the CBD and few other areas; by 2008 there will be 98 closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) throughout the city, including rural areas

Safety and Security • Liaison with National Authority: linked to the safety plans of the SAPS nationally • The total numbers for deployment to events will be determined by the security cluster committee • Plans are coordinated between local, provincial and National through Joint Operational Committee (JOC) • The 1995 RWC & WSSD were held without any negative incident
