T-LHA(R) (LHA-7/8) Platform Description Displacement, Full (LHD) 44,971 lt Speed 22.2 kts Length 844 ft Beam 106 ft Draft 28.82 ft (Full Load) Crew 285; Standing Detachment 99 Troop Lift ~5,132 Med Capability 4 ORs; 16/45 ward beds Surface Interface Well 0 Flight Deck 9 CH-53K Spots Elevators 1 Port (37 ½ t); 1 Starboard (37 ½ t) Hangar Bay / High Bay 30,542 ft2 / Two 7 Frame High Bay (49 ft) Vehicle Square 19,112 ft2 Cargo/Ammo Cube 145,963 ft3 Cargo Fuel (JP-5) 1,300,000 gal 2 T-LHA(R) New Build Program Status Issues • LHA 7/8 (LHA 6 Class Ship), is the center piece in the MPF(F) squadron. • It’s weapons systems will be reduced in comparison to the Amphibious Assault Ship of the Assault Echelon as indicated with (T) designation. • Program to enhance the amphibious aviation capability-meet increased demand created by advanced aviation platforms distributing the MEB ACE. • LHA 7 supports MEB ACE (12 MV-22B, 8 CH-53K, 9 AH-1Z, 6 UH-1Y) • LHA 8 supports MEB ACE (24 MV-22B, 9 AH-1Z, 3 UH-1Y) • LHA-7/8 planned w/o well-deck • Procurement of LHA-7 (FY10) and LHA-8 (FY13) are currently programmed as MPF(F) big decks • CDD plans ship in Increment 2 • CDD planned staffing - Jan 08 • Acquisition Program: Milestone B TBD. • Program of Record is for 2 ships • Last ship to be delivered in FY-18 • FY13 LHA(R) is currently unfunded • No Self Defense Systems; “Sea-Shield” protection • Civilian Crewed • The 3rd planned MPF(F) big deck will be the Bataan (LHD-5).
