This document outlines key issues and tasks related to the Near Infrared Imager (NIRI) for 2007-2008, including the detection of pattern noise, flexure in the PWFS, and the establishment of photometric standards. It also details baseline calibrations for all NIR instruments, necessary searches for new standard stars, and the provision of templates for various observing modes. The text emphasizes ongoing support for noise reduction and aims to enhance the operational efficiency of the NIRI instrument.

NIRI Issues for 2007-2008 • NIR web page • OT Library • Detector pattern noise • PWFS Flexure • Other Outstanding Tasks
NIR Webpage • www.gemini.edu/sciops/instruments/nir • Baseline calibrations for all NIR instruments • Photometric standard search • new UKIRT standard star catalog • Telluric standard searches • based on coordinates, magnitude & spectral type • provides standards before & after science
NIRI OT Library • Complete examples of all observing modes • Photometric standard stars • template observations of all UKIRT standards • include guide star & broad-band exposure times • Imaging & Spectroscopic flats & arcs • new exposure times & GCAL filter configurations
Detector Pattern Noise • 8-pixel periodic pattern • Primarily affects longer exposure frames • nvnoise.cl (in GNIRS IRAF package) • reduces noise, but cannot remove all of the pattern • Not charging for affected frames • Resources allocated to work on this problem
PWFS Flexure • Flexure exists between PWFS & NIRI • ~0.2''/hour, depending on slit orientation • Imposes ~10 min / hour re-centering overhead • Hope to measure & model flexure
Other Outstanding Tasks • Photometric zero-point monitoring • Implement IRAF detector linearity correction • Improve WCS • Others?
