  2. Distances and Diameter • The average distance from the sun in miles is about 1.8 billion miles. • The average distance from the sun in AU is between 18.3 and 20.1 miles. • Perihelion distance: 1,703,360,000 miles. • Aphelion distance: 1,866,360,000 miles. • The diameter of Uranus is 13,763 miles.

  3. Rotational And Orbital Periods • Rotational Period: 17 hours, 14 minutes • Orbital Period: 84 Earth years

  4. Composition, Atmosphere, And Surface • Uranus’s composition is mostly hydrogen, helium, and methane. • Uranus’s atmosphere is also made of hydrogen, helium, and methane. • Uranus’s surface has no craters, as well as no channels or other markings on the surface.

  5. Temperatures • Highest Temperature: 12,600 degrees Fahrenheit • Lowest Temperature: -360 degrees Fahrenheit • Average Temperature: -355 degrees Fahrenheit

  6. Size, Gravity, and Mass compared to Earth • Size compared to Earth: 4 times the size of Earth • Gravity compared to Earth: 90 percent more gravity • Mass compared to Earth: 14 ½ times larger

  7. Discovery and Name Meaning • Uranus was discovered in 1781. It was discovered by William Herschel. • Uranus’s name means The Roman Gods of Heavens.

  8. Terrestrial or Jovian? • Uranus is a Jovian planet. This means that Uranus is an outer planet. Since Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun, it is an outer planet.

  9. Photos of Uranus and Cross-cut Distance between each layer: not available

  10. 12 Cool Facts!  • Uranus is the coldest planet in the Solar System. • Uranus rotates on its side. • A day on Uranus is about 17 hours. • Summer and darkness are both 42 years. • Uranus is the second least dense planet in the Solar System. • The rings of Uranus are very dark. • Uranus is blue (caused by methane). • Uranus has 27 moons ( or natural satellites). • Uranus was the first planet discovered after the invention of the telescope. • Uranus has been visited once in January, 1986 • Uranus has rings made of ice and small particles. • Uranus is almost twice the distance from the sun that Saturn is.

  11. URANUS! Thank you! 
