  3. Repaso-making nouns plural • Remember to make a noun plural youaddan–s ifthenounsends in a vowel and –es ifthethenounends in a cosanant. • If a noun ends in a –z you must drop the “z” and change it to a “c” and then add –es. • el lapiz los lapices • la raizlasraices

  4. ESTAR or SER? • There are two ways to say the English verb to bein Spanish: ser and estar. Repaso: When do we use SER? • Nationality: ¿De dóndeeres? • Time: ¿Quéhoraes? • Date: ¿Quédíaeshoy? • How someone is like: ¿Cómoeres? ***It is used for things that don’t change! Memorize the chart!

  5. When do we use estar? • Location • Feelings *** It is used with things that change. Where you are and how you feel always use estar.

  6. How do we conjugate the verb –estar? EstoyEstamos EstásEstáis EstáEstán • Eg. Estoy en la clase.(location) • Estoycansado. (feeling)

Estar and location: ¿Dóndeestá? • al lado (de) • cerca (de) • debajo (de) • delante (de) • dentro (de) • detrás (de) • encima (de) • lejos (de) • Use the de after the location word when a specific location is mentioned. When de is followed by the el, they combine to form the contraction del. • ¿Dóndeestá la tiza? • La tizaestá al ladodel borrador.

  8. Translate • The eraser is next to the calculator. • I am in Spanish class. • He is in the library. • They are in the gym. • The pencils are inside the desks. • The students are in the hall. • You are in front of the door.

  9. Look at the classroom • Describe where 8 objects are located in the room using the new prepositions. • Use 8 new vocabulary words. (use dictionary) • Use different prepositions!!! • Example: Los estudiantesestánencima de lassillas.

  10. Estar with feelings • Estar is used with adjectives to say how someone feels at a given moment. (temporary) • Remember that adjectives agree in number and gender!!! • ¿Cómoestás? How do you feel? • Yoestoybien. • Yoestoy mal. • Ella estácontenta. • Ellosestánenojados.

  11. ESTAR with feeling- ¿Cómoestás? • Cansado/a • Contento/a • Deprimido/a • Emocionado/a • Enojado/a • Nervioso/a • Ocupado/a • Tranquilo/a • Triste • Bien • Mal • Asíasí

  15. Writing about your room • Title: Mi Cuarto & Mi cuarto favorito • Writeabouteachpicture. • You need 12-14 sentences all together. Write 6-7 sentences for each picture. You need to include: • - Why you like or dislike the room. (2) • -How you feel in the room.(1) • -Say where things are located in your room. Use the verb estar. Use different things and prepositions. Irregular verb: Ir-to go • Use ir to talk about where someone is going. • voyvamos • vas vais • va van • **notice this verb doesn’t not have accents! • Use ir with the word a to say that someone is going to a specific place. • When a is followed by the word el, they combine to form the contraction al. • Yovoy al cine. (a + el cine= al cine)

  22. Translate • He goes the bathroom. • Pablo and you go to the gym • Pablo goes the principal’s office. • We go home. • The students go to the hall. • You go to the library. • They go to the cafeteria.

  23. Ir-to go • The verb to go can also imply the future. • I am going to school. (in the future) • In Spanish you use the present tense of the verb to go. • Yovoy a la escuela. • ****Do not conjugate the verb to be! Only ir!

  24. Translate • I am going to the office. • He is going to the library. • Maria and I are going the gym. • They are going to eat. • We are going to listen to music. • You are going to watch television. • You all are going to study. • You all (Spain) are going to do the homework.
