Things to keep in mind in order to Communicate properly Listen before speaking Avoid Confusion if possible avoid ten codes speak in common phrases Press and hold the talk button and wait 1 to 2 seconds before speaking Say who you want to speak to first then state your name, call sign or role Hold the talk button an additional 1 to 2 when finished Wait for the remote party to acknowledge your call Speak slowly, clearly and concisely, spell confusing names, remember the 1 to 2 second rule Wait for the remote party to acknowledge that the message was received and understood. The Communication is NOT complete until the remote party acknowledges the message

  7. Prepare ahead of time Depending on your Emergency Communications Plan obtain extra batteries for your handheld radio, cell phone and or satellite phone.

  8. If deployed for an extended amount of time Re-Chargeable batteries are ready to go when needed also make sure you have chargers\cables to charge your devices.

  9. Most importantly know the Emergency Radio Plan Know your agencies Emergency Radio Plan train and work with it to become familiar before you need it.

  10. Be flexible Keep in mind there is more than one way to communicate.
