  2. Santorin ou Thira , un archipel d’îles volcaniques situé dans la mer Égée à 128 miles nautiques de Pirée.

  3. L’île principale de Santorin est Théra. Superficie 76 km². Population 10,700 âmes (2001)

  4. La partie volcanique active est formée par l’île de Néa Kaméni.

  5. Plus de 350 églises.

  6. La date de l’éruption volcanique remonte au II° millénaire, entre 1650 et 1598 av. J-C.

  7. L’éruption a provoquée un tsunami de 60 mètres de haut. Aucun survivant sur l’île.

  8. L’île connaît des occupations successives. Par l’Égypte, Rome, Byzance, Vénise, la Turquie et enfin, annexée à la Grèce.

  9. 3 éruptions au cours du XX° siècle, la dernière en 1950. Actuellement le volcan est très actif et il est étroitement surveillé.

  10. Cité antique de Théra, découverte par Hiller Von Gärtringer.
