  2. AVG • Free Anti-Virus Software • J.R. Smith President of AVG oversees a lineup of antivirus products used by 110 million customers around the world • Main message is to get those who aren’t protected. (wrapped up like a Trojan.. That protects against… Trojans!) • Many people believe they are protected or believe companies they do business with online adequately protect them.

  3. AVG News • President J.R. Smith recently started a CyberSecurity Month • He says, “People need to be part of the solution because if they're not protecting themselves, they might be spreading malware. Their computers might be used for botnets, so they're actually part of the problem.” • A Botnet is a collection of software agents, or robots, that run autonomously and automatically.

AVG- Who are they? • AVG was founded in 1991 with the express purpose of protecting people around the world using the latest in cutting edge security technologies. • AVG gained success quickly and is now recognized as one of the biggest players in the security software market. • AVG currently holds corporate offices in Europe, the US and the UK.

Using Social Engineering and Malware • Not only should is it important to have adequate Antivirus software it is also important to be aware of Social Engineering to prevent cyber attacks. • Spammers are increasingly using social-engineering techniques to lure e-mail recipients to open e-mail infected with malware.

  6. Malware- What is it? Malware, short for malicious software, is software designed to infiltrate a computer system without the owner's informed consent. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code

  7. What does AVG Do? AVG uses the latest technology developed by world-renowned security experts to provide real-time defenses against real-time threats. With AVG you can surf, shop, bank, download files, chat, network and email safely and confidently, knowing that your personal information will not be stolen or misused.

Social Engineering •  While similar to a confidence trick or simple fraud, the term typically applies to trickery or deception for the purpose of information gathering, fraud, or computer system access • Social engineering is the act of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information, rather than by breaking in or using technical cracking techniques

  11. AVG FIREWALL (ENHANCED) • AVG Firewall protects against malicious attacks by examining communications on each network port. It immediately blocks all unauthorized access attempts and now includes smart intrusion prevention • AVG Firewall also protects against both inbound and outbound attacks • AVG SMART ANTI-ROOTKIT (ENHANCED) • AVG Smart Anti-Rootkit technology detects malicious programs that try to hide deep within systems. The user-level view of the file system and processes are analyzed with the operating system’s kernel and any discrepancies are reported as the possible presence of a rootkit.

Summary of Importance • Any computer and internet user needs latest antivirus software programs installed on their computer. • Even thought most of these programs come already installed with your computer and are free, antivirus software is absolutely essential to safe and uninterrupted internet usage. • It also plays and important role in computer safety, as it can protect your vital documents and files from becoming damaged or lost forever.
