  1. “The essence of the beautiful is unity in variety.”- Felix Mendelssohn

  2. Change the World • Not many people have a dream to change the world at a young age. The dream was mine to take and hold as my own. The dream became even more motivating when I learned about my heart condition.

  3. My Passions • Dancing is the first half of my life. I’ve been dancing since I was 11 years old and have not stopped since. The hunger keeps building. • The other half of my life is helping people with disabilities. Ever since I walked into Mr. Crippen’s classroom, it sparked something inside me. • I found a way to combine my two worlds into a senior project and ultimately a future career.

  4. Choosing a Topic and Project • Doing research in previous years, I found that many people without disabilities believe that those with special needs do not have any skills or talents. The stereotype has spread throughout a huge portion of the world. Even though people with learning disabilities have a harder time learning certain things than others, they are just like you and me. Everybody has their own talents and specialties. • M project’s purpose was to bring out those talents into the world and fight back against really any negative stereotype that people have placed on others. • So then I figured, what can I do with my dance world that will impact the world?

  5. My Findings • In my findings and experiences, I have found that dancing stimulates intellect and learning. They are in a non judgmental environment where they can show their skills willingly without any sign of bullying and judgment. It was time to mix the family-based underground world of hip hop and those with disabilities to show that no matter who you are, you have a specialty that you can be and share with the world.

  6. My Project • I created a Hip Hop dance workshop built specifically for those with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. • The workshop would be freestyle based so that they can show off their free dancing skills with those who have danced for many years.

  7. MyElektro Academy Family • I was able to get some of the members of my hip hop crew Elektro academy to teach and participate in the workshop. When children are engaged with the world around them, they are more prepared to interact with it, learn from it, and contribute to it. Dance is a vehicle that stimulates this engagement.” – Michael O’Donnell Kalob Insalaco Elektro Academy

  8. Outcome

  9. Impact • This project has impacted the community in such a way that it spread the word that even those with disabilities can do all of the things that those without disabilities can do, no matter what anyone thinks. • We spread the word that anyone has the potential to make a change in the world with their talent. • It impacted me in giving me a new spark in my motivation to build my own dance studio for people with and without disabilities and maybe take a crew with mixed abilities to Hip Hop International.

  10. Benevolence, Honor, Scholarship • Benevolence – this is a kind act to show the world something new and bring more widespread awareness to the fact that we are all powerful. • Honor – It is highly respectable for the fact that those with special needs would be willing to show off their skills individually even if they have no dancing skills whatsoever. • Scholarship – Being in a social environment has taught me that We all have different talents and skills. This project was to bring those skills out of my peers. The teacher is always still a student.

  11. My Movement • My dream is create my own dance studio for people with and without disabilities to spread a positive mindset worldwide. • If you would like to get involved as a teacher or worker sometime later, let me know.
