  1. Version 01.2014 NKE AUSTRIA Electrically Insulated Bearings – SQ77x

  2. Content • General application / background • Technical aspects of electrically insulated bearings • Overview of product range • Applications and references for electrically insulated bearings • Summary

  3. General Application / Background (1/3) SQ77xis the Special Quality specification for insulated NKE rolling element bearings The insulation prevents the passage of electrical current thus eliminating the risk of • Damaged raceways • Damaged rolling elements • Premature ageing of the lubricant

  4. General application / background (2/3) The electrical current passing through the bearing may be caused by • Incorrect or faulty wiring • Faulty or damaged earth connections resulting in insufficient potential equalisation • Unshielded and/or asymmetric wiring in electric motors • Asymmetrical magnetic flux • Fast acting frequency converters

  5. General application / background (3/3) The potential for damage can be eliminated by • Ensuring correct wiring • Sufficient earth connection • Isolated coupling to the electrical machine • Electric filters • Grounding of rotors and brushes • Use of insulated NKE SQ77x bearings

  6. Technical aspects of electrically insulated bearings (1/3) Electrical insulation on bearings • Aluminium oxide ceramic insulating coating done by plasma spraying • The guaranteed minimum breakdown resistance of this insulating layer is 1000V / 3000V alternating or direct current. Variants: SQ77/SQ77C – insulating layerapplied to the outer ring. SQ77E/SQ77H – insulating layerapplied to the inner ring Application of coating and basic technical characteristics as for SQ77 + Less coated surface offering increased electrical impedance over SQ77

  7. Technical aspects of electrically insulated bearings (2/3) • All Boundary dimensions and tolerances are identical to those of standard bearings - complete inter-changeability and replacement of conventional bearings with NKE electrically insulated bearings is possible. • Load ratings (i.e. both static and dynamic) are equal to conventional bearings. • No peeling or chipping-off of the insulation layer, when the handling and mounting of the bearing is done carefully - otherwise the procedures are the same as for standard bearings. • NKE electrically insulated bearings are also available in combination with other special features to meet special application requirements and suit customer needs.

  8. Technical aspects of electrically insulated bearings (2/3) • SQ77x bearings are specifically prepared to ensure  geometric accuracy after coating  adherence of coating  consistent thickness of coating • Thickness of the coating applied by plasma coating:  > 0.125mm resp. 0.25mm for outer / inner ring and side faces  guaranteeing 1000V resp. 3000V minimum breakdown resistance with AC/DC

  9. Overview of product range (1/2)

  10. Overview of product range (2/2) • Popular SQ77 bearing types (with insulated outer ring) are available on stock or with short lead times, e.g. • Cylindrical roller bearingsDesign variants: NJ, NU, NUPDimension series: 210-230, 310-330Cages: brass and polyamideRadial clearance groups: C0, C3, C4 • Deep groove ball bearingsDimension series: 6212-6226; 6312-6326 Cages: brassRadial clearance groups: C3, C4 • Other bearing types and SQ77C/E/H upon request
