  3. Functions of This Department • In charge of coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions relating directly to national security and the military. • Also operate many joint service schools such as the National War College.

  5. Responsible for the development of new technology for use by the military. DARPA has been responsible for funding the development of many technologies which have had a major impact on the world, including computer networking. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agencies

  6. Responsible for protecting the pentagon. PFPA expanded that mission to provide force protection against the full spectrum of potential threats through robust prevention, preparedness, detection, and response measures. Pentagon Force Protection Agency

  7. DIA is a major producer and manager of foreign military intelligence. It provides military intelligence to war fighters, defense policymakers and force planners, in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community, in support of U.S. military planning and operations and weapon systems acquisition.   8. Martial Law • A system of rules that take effect when the military takes control of the normal administration of justice. • After President Bush signed the John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007, that allowed him to declare a “public emergency” and then station troops anywhere in America and take over any state-based National Guard Unit without consent from local authorities.

  9. Responsible for developing a layered defense against ballistic missiles. Their mission is to develop, test and prepare for deployment of a missile defensesystem. Missile Defense Agency
