  2. Commercial One: victimsIdentify the persuasive techniques used

  3. Sympathy Getting people to feel happy, sad, or angry about the problem can help your argument. Example: Your donation might just get this puppy off the street and into a good home.

  5. Consequences What will happen if the problem continues? Provoke a fear of the results. Example: If fracking for gas continues, one-fourth of Americans could be left without water to drink.

  6. Commercial One: - tempur pedicIdentify the persuasive techniques used

  7. Benefits Show your reader that action will actually be good for themselves. Example: If you plant more trees, you will feel happier and more energetic.

  8. Personal Experience Explain that you have responded to the problem, or that it has otherwise impacted your life. Example: My cousin, a kind, wonderful person, was killed by a drunk driver in 2009. Example: I always turn off lights when I leave a room. If everyone would do this, we could save a lot of electricity.

  9. Urgency Try to convince your audience that this issue is so important they must act now. Example: If we don’t change things soon, it will be too late.

  10. What your paper should contain: 1 paragraph: Your own opinion and thoughts • Explain why your topic is a problem 2 paragraphs: Two possible solutions • What can you, I, the class, America, the President, or ANYBODY do to help? • The only solution you can’t use: giving money 1 paragraph: One worthwhile charity • Identify a charity which helps a problem, and show why they deserve money • How do they spend the money • What have they achieved?
