  2. Two Feasts in Matthew 14 HEROD JESUS Deserted place with disciples & commoners Very simple Characterized by the compassion of love Ended with hopeful fulfillment • Palace with nobles and chief men • Costly and luxurious • Characterized by the passion of lust • Ended in guilt and murder

  3. Distress over the ills of others that prompts action to relieve THE COMPASSION OF JESUS

  4. Concern for the ApostlesMark 6:30-32 • Had been out preaching, Mark 6:7, 12-13 (Luke 9:6) • Rest after work is important and promised, Luke 9:10 • The Christian’s rest, Heb 4:9-11; Rev 14:13

  5. Compassion for the PeopleLuke 9:11 • Compassion for the soul • An eternal necessity, Mark 6:34 • Teaching • Compassion for the body • Temporary needs, Matt 14:14 (Lk 9:11) • Healings and food

  11. Jesus Supplies Food • Christ supplies our spiritual needs: • Salvation (eternal life), Jno 6:27, 47, 51, 56-58 • Guidance (truth), Lk 9:11 (Matt 28:19ff) • Security from sin and death, Jno 6:37-40; 2 Pet 1:8-11

  17. Jesus is the Bread of LifeJohn 6:35, 44-45, 51 • Come to Him • Hear and Believe on Him • Partake of Him (obey His word) • Live forever
