  10. Freezer Management 2001 • Freezers in various locations. • Not all alarmed. • Call-out procedures unclear. • No regular maintenance. • No emergency decant space. • No clear sample management.

  16. Roslin Freezer Measurements Freezers were all U-725 New Brunswicks, all relatively full. Meters were checked against each other. All over 24 hr period, with 24 hrs allowed between each measurement.

Steps to improvement • Replace inefficient fridges and freezers. • Encourage sharing-making user cost aware! • Utilise climate to help cool Freezer rooms. • Manage sample tracking –user friendly. • Maintain Freezers and Alarms. 2 visits/year. • Consider -20 walk-in rooms over multiple -20 chest freezers. (20% saving ) • Encourage temperatures at -70 over -80

  19. To Do List • Metering of cooling within freezer rooms- raise cost awareness. • True archive freezers removed to a secure and efficiently designed building(Freezer Farm)-this would release prime space within buildings to allow either expansion or consolidation! • Questions?
