  1. The Science of Biology:the Study of Life fau.edu/biology

  2. Biology • Thefield of Biologyencompasses the study of living and once living organisms, their relationships with each other, and the physical parameters needed to successfully sustain life. • From the molecular level to the level of the biosphere, biology is connected to our everyday lives. Anhinga in Everglades National Park (Dengler, 2002).

  3. Much to Study and Understand • The science of Biology has many disciplines. • Some of the areas are: anatomy, bioinformatics, biotechnology, biochemistry, botany, cytology, ecology, entomology, evolution, genetics, herpetology, immunology, marine, molecular, microbiology, mycology, paleontology, physiology, taxonomy, virology, zoology, etc.

  4. Biology Is Important for Wellbeing • Agriculture and animal husbandry (food). • Water, food, & air quality. • Medical knowledge: treatments, technologies cures, medicines. • Health standards and lifestyles : nutrition, exercise, stress, etc. • Consumer products and technologies. • History of life on Earth. • DNA science: genetic engineering, cloning, forensics. • Behavior: learning, sleep. • Biological weapons.

  5. Current Events in BiologyDirectly Affect Us

  6. Biology Recognizes the Interconnectednessand Importance of All Living Things. Though Human life is of utmost importance, in the scope of biology, all living organisms are important and necessary to sustain life, as we know it, on the planet Earth. Living organisms, from simple to complex, are interconnected and interdependent through their roles in the ecosystems. All life is precious and worthy of respect!
