This era birthed groundbreaking ideas, including the Laws of Gravity and Motion, pivotal political documents like the Declaration of Independence, and advancements in mathematics, notably calculus. Thinkers such as Immanuel Kant and Sir Isaac Newton revolutionized philosophy and science, while others like Voltaire and Rousseau questioned social norms and governance. People began to prioritize reason over religion, laying the groundwork for modern thought and democratic ideals.

  2. Da When n` Da Where • The Age of Reason took place in Europe around the years 1750-1800 • Started in central Europe and spread to England, then the Americas, then a lot of the rest of the world

  3. What’s so special about it?? • Gave us things like the Law of Gravity, the Laws of Motion, the Declaration of Independence, and, unfortunately, Calculus • So, a lot of stuff that we don’t like learning about, but is really useful in solving problems today • Kinda makes you wonder if this was when the aliens came down and gave us all this knowledge

  4. Who?? What dey write?? • Immanuel Kant • Critique of Pure Reason- purpose was to unite reason with experience and move philosophy on from the debate between rationalists and empiricists • Sir Isaac Newton • Principia Mathematica- laid the foundations for classical mechanics, explaining the Law of Gravity and the Laws of Motion… and you can blame him for Calculus • Voltaire • Candide- which satirizes and criticizes social convention • Jean Jacques Rousseau • The Social Contract- which sought to promote a more egalitarian form of government by consent and formed the basis of modern Republicanism. • Also spread to the Americas with people like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson

Back den. • This was a time of new thinking and rebirthing • People pretty much threw out the thought that everything can be answered with religion • They started thinking for themselves and finding out the real reasons that things were the way they were • Some reverted back to ancient times • Some applied the new thinking to help them in current situations such as freeing themselves from British rule…merica • Pretty much a bunch of people drinking and getting real philosophical and coming up with stuff that would lay the foundation for a lot of stuff that came after them
