East Herts YOT Downs Farm Centre Manager Derek Eyre The Old Fire Station, Ware, where the jeans and woodwork projects take place Jeans project • Counterfeit jeans come from a warehouse, and the young people remove the studs and buttons from them, thereby removing the identity. They then add a new identity and despatch the jeans back to the warehouse, who then send them to the Children Society Charity shops. Woodwork project • Timber is sourced from local companies, and a small group of young people use this to make garden planters and bird boxes and fences. These are then given to charities such as the Isabella Hospice or the Children’s Society

  7. East Herts YOT Downs Farm Centre Manager Derek Eyre • Sensory Garden in the Old Priory, Ware. Monkey sanctuary This sanctuary is run by someone who has been a victim of crime in the past. Small groups of young people help with gardening and general maintenance. PDSA The reparation team helped improve the Sensory Garden in the Old Priory, Ware. The Sensory Garden is a small, enclosed section in the Old Priory, designed for the visually impaired, and including plants and flowers with a particularly strong smell. • We work with the PDSA in Waltham Cross in their charity shop. Each person has an induction and training so that they can work in each of the four areas, which are: • Retail / Sorting /Seasonal /Collection.
