  1. Linda Fager Landbrugsskolen Sjælland 09- 2010 Feeding of Pigs

  2. Feeding • 1 FE = 1 FU (feed unit) • New system from 2006: 1 Feso = 1 Feed unit for sows (= 7.700 kj) 1 Fesv = 1 Feed unit for all other pigs ( = 7.380 kj) • We have standards for • Amino acid • Mineral • Vitamins The standards are based on trials • Raw material:Wheat, Barley and Soya meal

  3. sows 1500 – 1550 FU per year 50 % in the lactating 1 kg gain needs 3,2 FU If temperature fall 5º the sow nedds 0,25 FU ekstra per day

  4. Sows Skinny to fat

  5. Sows

  6. Pregnant sow • 1 kg mix = 0,9 – 1,05 FU • Regulation • Feeling of satiety • High fibre content • Feed bye the eye • The sow need the right condition

  7. Lactating sow • 1 kg mix = 1,06 – 1,1 FU • High milk production • No weight loos • Feed the piglets through the sow

  8. Milk production day Feeding Over 28 days she needs >180 FE. Raise feed slowly over the first 10 days to 7-9 FE/day day

  9. Feeding young sows (polte) • From 30 to 60 kgs: • Mixture for growers are good enough • Feed ad lib (but remember the condition and the legs) • From 60 kgs to 90 kg: • Mixture for lactating sows • Max. 2,5 Fu/day • Above 90 kgs: • By condition (2-3 FU/day) • The last two weeks before mating 3 – 4 FU/day (flushing)

  10. Weaners • 6-9 kg: 1 kg mix = 1,2 – 1,3 FU • 9-30 kg: 1 kg mix = 1,15 FU • 46 FU per pig (7-30 kg)

  11. Weaners Feeding after weaning Do not restrict feed in the first 3 days.(If no problems with diarrhoea) After day 4 you can feed restricted if needed: Everybody eats at the same time (min. 12 cm/pig at the trough) Give feed 2-4 times pr. day The feed must be eatet in 5-30 min. (through must be clean) The smallest 10% - 20% of the pigs can be given at better feed. Gruel feed in a long trough In the first week after weaning feed intake is a very important factor in reducing diarré. After 10-12 days all pigs are given feed ad. libitum

  12. Growers • 1 kg mix = 1,02 – 1,08 FU • 210 FU per pig (30-105 kg) • Ad lib / restrictive feeding (from 65 kg) • Reduce fat • Reduce feed cost • 1 kg meat 1,25 FE • 1 kg fat 4 FE

  13. Growers Daily gain 830 g Day after weaning Weight FE/day

  14. 70 kg gain * 0,1 FU/kg = 7 FU/pig 7 FU/pig * 1,40 dkk = 9,8 dkk/pig*10.000 pigs/year = 98.000 dkk/year Appr. = 13000 euro Example

  15. Vægt(kg) • EEsvpr. day prot.(g/FEsv) Feedmix • 25--50 • Adlib • 150-160 • Slaughterpigs • 50-90 • Max. 2,5 130 Lactatingsows Over90 • Bycondition(2-3) • 130 Lactatingsows Boars

  16. Average prices/FE forready – mix (2006/2007)

  17. Feed - Prices 2008 – 2010---
