  13. Promotions Policy HCSC places pride in academic rigour. We aim to encourage all students to be their very best. Many students fail in their obligation to complete adequate coursework. This is either due to poor attendance and lateness, illness, wellbeing issues or general apathy. The Promotions Policy at HCSC requires to students to achieve 60% or more at the expected level to proceed into VCE.

  14. Senior School Honours Senior School awards Honours to students for their academic achievement in individual subjects. If a student scores on or above 80%, the student is awarded with Honours. The process of awarding Honours by subject allows every student the opportunity to excel in the subject of their choice. Senior School Honours awards the effort displayed by each and every student. Students receiving Honours are celebrated at the Senior School Honours evening on Thursday 18th July

  15. Uniform A strong emphasis is placed on correct uniform at HCSC. Year 10 students are now differentiated as a Senior student with a slight change in uniform. Pride in uniform equates to a pride in your school. The Senior students set an example to the rest of the school. The uniform policy is outlined in full in the student engagement policy. Facial piercings are not acceptable. Students wearing facial piercings at school will have them confiscated.

  16. Year 10 Formal The Year 10 Formal is an exciting occasion in your child’s educational journey. For some this will be the last time that they are a student at HCSC. The Formal will be held on the 6th December 2013. The evening is a celebration of 11 years of hard work. HCSC expect student’s attending the formal to be exemplary representatives of the school. 26. Performance Review Book Strategy to keep students involved Increases communication between senior school, teachers and parents Student directed – goals Allows students to reflect on learning Not a behavior management strategy – focus on academic achievement

  27. At Risk Process In 2013, a student in Year 10 will begin the ‘At Risk’ process once they fail (less than 50%) an assessment task. The Classroom teacher or the Coordinator will call home and produce an ‘At Risk’ form to notify Parents/Guardians of the unsatisfactory work. See page 18 of the Parent Handbook

  28. At Risk Process If a student continues to fail to submit the required coursework from the ‘At Risk’ form then the classroom teacher will have no option but to give the student a progression point of a D or E therefore placing their successful completion of Year 10 at risk. Ms Barney or Ms Muir will make contact with families to discuss the consequences of a student who receive multiple number of D’s and E’s in Year 10. See page 19 of the Parent Handbook

  29. Surviving Year 10 Develop the partnership between parents, students and the school. Encourage effective communication with Teachers and Coordinators. Encourage Goal Setting and Time management. Stay informed.

  30. Surviving Year 10 Become involved in your child’s schooling. The best way for us to remember something is to teach someone else. Encourage your child to teach you about their work. Always remain calm. Encourage healthy eating, plenty of exercise and the importance of rest.

  31. Surviving Year 10 Remind your child that they need a balance between their social life, part-time work, sporting commitments and school. Provide a quiet place for them to work without distractions. The other AT RISK– Social and emotional wellbeing
