Enjoyed a perfect Saturday on April 15 at Townsend Flowage with Paddling Friends. The calm sunny conditions, with a high of 73º, made for an enjoyable 90 minutes on the water. We spotted a shy loon several times during our kayaking journey. Participants included Lonny Jackson, Mike and Rita Shores, and Nancy Rehbein in her new red kayak. A highlight was visiting a memorial island honoring Wisconsin soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. A peaceful spot to reflect and pay respects.

Near the west shore of the south portion of the flowage, look for an island bounded by a white picket fence. It contains a memorial (built by Jon & Kathleen Marsh) for Wisconsin soldiers who lost their lives for us in Iraq & Afghanistan. There is a dock; you are welcome to stop and pay your respects to these men & women who made the supreme sacrifice for us.
