Events • Host and participate in industry conferences and seminars including: • Environmental Intelligence in Maritime Seminars in Houston, Long Beach, Anchorage, New Orleans, Seattle • World Maritime Day Observance in NYC, Canada and Mexico • National Maritime Day Seminar in Washington DC • Connecticut Maritime Association Conference and Exhibition • Shipping & Offshore Corporate Social Responsibility Fora

  5. NAMEPA Goals in Education • Engage marine businesses, government and public to “Save our Seas” by promoting sound environmental practices • Educate seafarers, port communities, and students • Demonstrate marine industry’s commitment to environmental protection

Education Initiatives Seafarers NAMEPA works with seafarers to augment their existing knowledge about marine environment protection Through our relationship with the North American Maritime Ministry Association (NAMMA), NAMEPA distributed over 12,000 copies of the American Club’s environmental crimes poster Developed a MARPOL/Marine Science seafarer training program with over 10,000 programs disseminated throughout ports in North America including the Caribbean

  7. Education Initiatives Port Communities • Distribute educational materials including marine debris and MARPOL brochures – over 100,000 copies of marine debris poster to date! • Host events with regional orientation suiting local communities’ interests and concerns

Education Initiatives Students • Partnership with NOAA: creating new educational materials • Partners include NOAA,Sea Research Foundation (SRF), USCG and maritime academies • Drawing Contest with the USCG, SRF and the JASON project, reaching over 2.5 million students • Co-sponsor of Marine Science Fair with American Salvage Association

Education Initiatives Students Cont’d. • Learning institutions include Boys & Girls Clubs of America, New England Science and Sailing, Mystic Aquarium, etc. • Participate in the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup • Continuing to develop new materials and distribute throughout North America and the Caribbean • NAMEPA Junior website launched last year Beach cleanup with local Boys & Girls Clubs in Fairfield, CT

Interns • Provide outlet for students to gain valuable experience in the maritime industry • Our interns have played a pivotal role in program development and outreach to educational institutions • Schools include: Fairfield University, UMass Amherst, Mass Maritime Academy, University of New Hampshire, Roanoke, Fairfield Ludlowe High School, Santa Clara University, etc.
