Mancs: The Heroic Rescue Dog of Miskolc

Mancs, a German Shepherd and rescue dog of the Spider Rescue Team in Miskolc, became a legend through his life-saving efforts. Born with a leg defect that was corrected with homemade equipment, Mancs quickly proved his worth in rescue operations. His most notable achievement was rescuing a three-year-old girl from the ruins of the Izmit earthquake in 1999. His special skills allowed him to signal for survivors, making him the top Hungarian rescue dog. Sadly, he passed away in October 2006, but his legacy lives on through his statue, a tribute to his heroism.

  3. BIRTH • Hisfullname is Miskolci Sátán Mancs; 1994 – 22 October 2006. He was a Germansheperd, boar dog. He was a rescue dog fortheSpiderRescue Team of Miskolc. • He had eleven brothers and sistersinthelitter. When he wassixmoths old, hiskeeperrealizedthatthere is a problemwithone of his back legs. The vet diagnostizeddisplasy. With a homemadeequipmentwithinhalfayearhisbirthdefectwascorrected.

  5. LAST BARK • InOctober 2006 he gotpneumonia and died. Hiskeeperburiedhiminhisowngardenbehindcloseddoors. Inthefollowingweekshisstatueinthe city became a place of pilgrimage. Peoplelitcandlesthere.
