Guidelines for the Pre-AP History Research Paper

This assignment is a mandatory 100-point research paper for Pre-AP Social Studies. Students will choose a history-related topic, such as the fall of the Mayan Empire, and must have it approved by the instructor. The paper must include at least five sources, with a minimum of two different types, ensuring no more than three sources from the internet. Students are required to use MLA format, avoid plagiarism, and properly cite their sources. The final paper must be at least 1200 words, double-spaced, and submitted by April 7, 2014.

  2. The History Research PaperPre AP Social Studies • 1. The paper will count 100 points – MANDATORY assignment! It will go in its own category. • 2. Pick any history-related topic. Research and write a paper on this topic. • (Example: Why did the Mayan Empire fall? Your topic is your choice, but you must have it approved by me!)

You must use at least FIVE sources NOT COUNTING your textbook for your paper – • these may be: • internet sites, encyclopedias, books, journals, etc. At least two different types of sources must be used. Can ONLY use 3 internet sources. • MLA FORMAT

  4. The History Research PaperPre AP Social Studies • 4. Avoid PLAGIARISM! • This is when you use someone’s words OR ideas without giving them credit. Use your own voice, and cite your sources. These should be listed on a separate BIBLIOGRAPHY page at the end of your paper
