  3. Answers • Surgical masks are not useful in a laboratory setting: they do not protect against aerosols! • All persons in the laboratory should wear gowns or laboratory coats.

  5. Answer Wear gloves while processing specimens. Wear gowns with narrow cuffs

  7. Answers • Do not use gloves for handling non-contaminated devices – or they will become contaminated! • Remove gloves after every interruption of activity.

  9. Answers • If respirators are worn, the manufacturer’s instructions must be followed. • A respirator must fit the user’s face perfectly, without leakage. • Long-sleeved gowns or laboratory coats must be worn.

  11. Answers • Two technicians are working in a small BSC at the same time. • One is wearing a surgical mask, one a respirator. • Long-sleeved gowns or laboratory coats must be worn.

  12. What should be done in case of a spill within the BSC?

  13. Answer • Cover the spill with paper towel and soak thoroughly with an adequate disinfectant, allowing 2 hours for contact. • Wipe the surrounding exposed surface and equipment with disinfectant .
