  2. Project Goals • Pacifier for babies (e.g., bedtime). • Pacifier for children, by letting them connect to their parents by video-phone. • Electronic games and educational activities operated by touch. • Autonomous E-care • E-Play contacts a parent when it “hears” the child crying.

  3. Description - Baby E-Play • Baby E-Play can be placed inside the baby bed. • The baby can operate it by simple touch. • Baby E-Play plays a song for bedtime, or tells a story.

  4. Description - Child E-Play • Child E-Play may be placed on a stand, or on a flat surface. • The child chooses one of many activities by touching the corresponding shape. • Activities include: • story telling • song playing • interactive game • connecting the parents by video phone

  5. Technology Found • Panel PC with flat and touch screen, modem, and ethernet connection. • Digital frames (e.g., Sony). • IP phones services. • Kiosks technology and software. • Digital video cameras and editing/playing software.

  6. Technology in the Future • E-Play on batteries and wireless communication - NO CABLES! • No open drives • IP Phone connection or phone handset attached to E-Play. • Ability of recognizing a child crying. • Appropriate software attached that enables the parents to customize E-Play for their own family.

  7. Current Status • Touch and Play - Try it by yourself! • Expertise is needed to prepare the files that are played. • E-Play is not adapted for different reaction times. • Automatic on/off is not available. The touchscreen is not a standalone living software.

  8. Field Work • TomK E-Play • ability to point • reaction times (though it did not distract him) • YaelK E-Play • Her behavior was more focused. • No training period - E-Play was played naturally by both.

  9. Long Term Advantages • Large libraries of movies/stories can be stored in the HD. No need to play Video/DVD one after the other. • Easy way of communication between children and parents absent from home. • Learning to match (shapes, sounds, pictures and activities).
