  2. Listening in part iii • Ch 11 ~ Listening Guide : Monteverdi, Orfeo, Act II, Recitative, A l’amara novella, and Arioso, Tu se’ morta • The reading in this portion of the text discusses the differences between recitative and arioso. Be sure to notice the different in sounds, texture, rhythm, and harmony. It is important to listen to this excerpt in its entirety to hear these different parts and how they work together. You may not be able to follow the words exactly, and that is okay. • Ch 13 ~ Listening Exercise 19 • Fugue is a wonderful musical game with many, many rules. Deciphering the different parts can be very difficult. It will help if you can train your ear to listen to one voice at a time. It will be easier to hear the different entrances if you listen to it as four voices instead of a whole.
