  2. History of the Mission The mission San Juan Capistrano was founded by Father Serra. Two other missions close to San Juan Capistrano are San Luis Rey de Fracia and San Gabriel Archangel. My mission was founded on November 1st, 1776.

  3. Daily Life • Soldiers lived in San Juan Capistrano to protect and help the people living there. They made weapons and sold items. • Some Indians live the in teepees and some lived in houses.

  4. Special Features • The nickname of my mission is, Jewel of the Missions. • Some rooms in San Juan Capistrano are the churches so they can pray. • Another room is the priest quarters. • The soldiers quarters, so they can make weapons, have a conference, and protect the villagers living there. • One cool fact is that San Juan Capistrano was twice-founded.

  5. Historic Highlights A big earthquake once destroyed San Juan Capistrano’s stone wall church in 1817. (Rebuilt with a smaller church.) San Juan Capistrano is famous for the bird called a, “swallow”. Named for St. John Capistrano.

  6. Mission Today • San Juan de Capistrano is still open for people to look around. It looks similar to when people lived there.
