  3. “Grass Roots” Shared Governance • Lots of departmental, school and college, university, and Senate committees at work throughout campus • Hundreds of faculty members involved in this important service work • Many important decisions are made by these committees every month • Your elected officers each serve on a number of these committees

  4. September Meetings:Observations and Impressions • 09/06 Cabinet Meeting—Focus: Make certain BoT agenda was in good shape • 09/06 CoA Senators/Committee Members Luncheon—Great idea! Thanks Dean Batchelor; good sounding board • 09/06 Provost’s Council Meeting—Deans and other direct reports meet monthly • 09/06 Senate Executive Committee—Meets twice per month with Provost

  5. September Meetings:Observations and Impressions • 09/10 Senate Executive Comm. meeting with Drs. Gogue, Boosinger, Large—very frank monthly discussions • 09/10 President’s Administrative Meeting—Weekly briefings for campus leaders (also 9/17 and 9/24) • 09/11 Provost’s Open Forum on the Central Classroom Facility—Excellent! • 09/11 AU Senate meeting

September Meetings:Observations and Impressions • 09/13 Senate Steering Comm. meets twice per month to set Senate agenda and preview Senate presentations (also 09/20) • 09/20 BoT Finance Comm. workshop—Best BoT interaction I’ve seen in 35 years at AU • 09/21 BoT meeting—Brief and to the point. Budget passed! Good presentations. • 09/26 Administrative Review Team meeting—Effort to ensure a fair and comprehensive 360-degree review

September Meetings:Observations and Impressions • 09/26 Academic Affairs Comm. meets frequently to deal with “nitty gritty” issues Tiger Advisor program is now operational • 09/27 Master Plan Update Comm.—Broad-based group; Sasaki Associates adds value • 09/27 Executive Facilities Comm.—Seeking to ensure that all land on AU campus is being used optimally; part of master planning effort

  8. Reminders • Read (or at least scan) “AU Daily”…daily! It is our campus diary; much is happening • October 9 General Faculty meeting—”State of the University”; Drs. Gogue, Boosinger, Large, Mr. King will present brief reports and respond to questions • Campus United Way campaign is underway and Dr. John Mason is Honorary Chair
