Hooray For Tacky!

1. Hooray For Tacky! Based on Tacky and the Winter Games by Helen Lester. Retold by LEE 177 Spring, 2011

2. There lived a group of penguins in a nice, icy land. Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly, Perfect, and Tacky. Tacky was the odd bird. It was time to train for the winter games and Penguin teams from all over the iceberg would come and compete. The penguins exercised hard to train for the games. Tacky wanted to train with his friends.

3. The other penguins let Tacky be on the team. It was the first event of the Winter Games! As the team got ready for the bobsled race, Tacky fell belly down knocking them all on him! Away they sailed down the hill. They came in first place!

4. But wait! The judges took a closer look at the team’s bobsled. They decided that Tacky was NOT a bobsled and yelled, “Disqualified!” No gold medal yet for Tacky’s team.

5. The next event was the relay race. Tacky’s team was doing great! Lovely passed the baton to Tacky who ATE it! The judges yelled, “Disqualified”. They needed the baton at the finish line to be the winners. But wait, they had an idea. .

6. They took Tacky to the Doctor for some x-rays, and invited the judges to come and see. They took the x-ray and there it was, the baton was in Tacky’s stomach!

7. The judges declared that Tacky’s team won the relay race! Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly, and Perfect were happy to have Tacky as a team mate. Tacky was an odd bird, but a good bird to have around.
