Impact of Nitric Oxide Species on Nitrate and Nitrite Reduction in Engineered Microbial Systems

This study investigates the effects of various nitrogen compounds, including nitrate (NO3-), nitrite (NO2-), nitric oxide (NO), and nitrous oxide (N2O), on microbial activity under controlled laboratory conditions. Utilizing engineered strains with modified narG and nirS genes, we examine how these bacteria perform in a nutrient-rich LB medium at pH 7.8 with 15 mM concentrations of NO3- and NO2-. The implications for bioremediation and nitrogen cycling are discussed, providing insights into microbial responses to different nitrogen oxides.
