W&G, page 505, Ex. 20 • A new law passed in 1670 will be prohibiting thatched roofs. • Other laws have been requiring that streets be kept clear of flammable materials. • The mayor had been appointing wardens to report fire hazards. • The wardens are fining violators of fire laws. • By 1732, the city was purchasing its first fire engine.
