  1. Loiter: to linger aimlessly or to waste time Warning: Do not loiter in Medusa’s lair or you will turn to stone!

  2. exploit: (noun) a striking or notable deed Percy Jackson became known for his great exploits when he retrieved the lightning bolt for Zeus.

  3. exploit: (verb) to use selfishly for one's own ends The evil Medusa exploited her visitors.

  4. Tabloid: a small newspaper that concentrates on questionable news. You see them while in the check-out line at grocery stores. Percy’s step-dad lied to the tabloids to try to make people think Percy was guilty.

  5. Grover always demonstrated his loyalty to Percy. Loyalty: showing faithfulness and commitment

  6. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth took a scary voyage to the underworld. This is a French word. A popular saying is: Bon Voyage! (Have a good trip!)

  7. Most people need ointment for their wounds to be healed, but Percy needs water.

  8. No humans can be employed at Mount Olympus. Employ: to hire, to use

  9. Percy was not thrilled about being appointed to help save Earth.

  10. Convoy: an armed force that protects. Percy’s convoy helped the mission to succeed.
