ScentTrek Suntory Blue Rose “applause” Floral Fruity Centifolia Rosa, Fruity, Tea rose In October 2009 Suntory (Chyoda-ku, Tokyo) announced the availability of “SUNTORY Blue Rose “Applause” for the Japanese market, the world’s first Hybrid Tea rose with nearly 100% blue pigments in the petals, as they claim. Since the creation of La France by Guillot (1867), which was classified as the first Hybrid Tea rose, tens of thousands of such “Modern Roses” have been bred and the color “Blue” was always a challenging goal. Although not 100% blue “Applause” is certainly the bluest of bluish Hybrid Tea roses, not only visually, also olfactorily. Quite interestingly, the scent concept of “Applause” is related to “La France”, rosy related to Rosa centifolia with fruity and Tea rose aspects, but much more pronounced in its strength and fruitiness, the later characterized by a cassis-related shade.
