  2. Claim Does anyone know what this artifact is made of or what it is called? Well , listen and you will learn! This artifact is the snow snake!

  3. Natural Resources First ,I learned what natural resources the snowsnake is made of. The Native Americans used wood from trees. One end has a notch made of pewter and the other end has a snake head carved in it. The metal pewter was used only after Europeans arrived with metals.

  4. Purpose Next, the purpose of the snowsnake is to communicate with other tribes and to play a game. The game was played like this: First they would drag a log in the snow so the Native Americans could slide the snowsnake down the path of snow. Then the first person slides the snowsnake down the path, who ever is the farthest wins. Sports are an important part of the Native Americans traditional society.

  5. Properties Also, I observed that the notch was made of pewter. There also is a snake head carved in it. When I looked at the snowsnake it was usually the color tan. Also when I felt the snowsnake it was smooth and the way it got that way is because the Native Americans sanded and polished it.

  6. Interesting Facts Some interesting facts I learned is that the game of snowsnake is about 500 years old. It was played in the winter after the men returned from their annual hunt. Also it’s been recorded in Sports Illustrated that reached 108 miles per hour. Snowsnake is a mans sport and women do not attend or participate in tournaments.

  7. Closing Sentence Overall, this artifact tells us that the Iroquois people are extremely good at making the snowsnake and playing the game of snowsnake. They like to play games just like we do!
