  2. Biography He was born on May 12, 1864 in Wilmington, Delaware He attended MIT Hi family was known for their gunpowder manufacture plant He personally loved playing the violin and was a composer
  3. Biography Continued He was married to Jessie Ball du Pont (sister of the man he partnered with in some of his entrepreneurships in Florida). He had made several trips to Florida in the past, and him and his wife really enjoyed it here, so they eventually decided to reside here. There home was called Epping Forest which you can still tour today. Worth $56 million He died in Jacksonville, FL on April 28, 1935
  4. Impact on FL Economy He kept Florida National Bank of Jacksonville afloat during a bank run in 1929. He put his own money into a bank account, an amount of $15 million. He also helped with opening the other Florida National Banks.
  5. Impact on FL Economy He set up the Nemours Foundation to care for the elderly and for hurt children who could be cured. There are many of the Nemours clinics located in Florida, one near us off of 417! Today, The Nemours Foundation is one of the largest privately funded medical foundations in the nation In Jacksonville, the Nemours Foundation operates the Nemours Children's Clinic.
  6. Impact of FL Economy He earned more money by buying the Florida East Coast Railway, real estate and banks. He helped out-of-work people find jobs during the Great Depression. Each day, his foreman sent out a fleet of trucks to pick men up off street corners and put them to work beautifying parks. (There is a park named after his wife).
  7. What would FL look like without him? He was known as one of FL’s most prominent entrepreneurs, he put so much money into rebuilding our state. The Nemours children’s fund would probably not be around. Our railways would not have expanded. A lot of people would have suffered without jobs after the Great Depression which would have affected the economy and turned our modern day economy upside down! He was a great asset to our state, and we would not have progressed or have had any of his funds without his presence.
