Turkey Section invitation • IEEE Turkey Section invites 2009 IEEE Region 8 Meeting to be held in Istanbul. • We are resonably a large section with many chapters and student members • Membership • The IEEE Turkey Section 2240 active members with many student members (9 Fellows, 68 Senior Members and 1085 Student Members). • We hold many technical meetings and support many conferences each year • 7 (AP), 16 (COM), 8 (CS), 6 (EMB), 5 (Circuits and Systems), 4 (SP), 4 (PE), 3 (LEO) technical activities, 10 conferences, 5 GOLD meetings and Student Branch Congress have been held in 2007. • We could help in the local organization of the 2009 Region 8 meeting with our resources.

The average flying time to reach Istanbul is only between 2,5-3 hours from all major cities of Europe, Middle East, North Africa, The flying time from New York to Istanbul is 9 hours and from Tokyo is 11 hours. Istanbul’s new and modern international airport receives two daily direct flights from all major European Cities, Continent of America, Middle and Far East.

  12. Some facts about Turkey ?... The famous Trojan Wars took place in Western Turkey Truva town. The first church built by man (St. Peter's Church) is in Antioch (Antakya), Turkey. The oldest known human settlement in Turkey is Catalhoyuk (7th Millennium B.C.) St. Nicholas, also known as Santa Clause, was born in Demre - Antalya Noah's Ark landed on Mount Ararat (Agri Dagi) in Eastern Turkey. Turkey houses one of the the richest flora and almost every year new plant species are gained to the world literature. The Turks were who introduced coffee to Europe. Turkey is noted for having one of the three (together with French and Chinese) most famous and distinctive traditional cuisines in the world. Anatolia is the birthplace of historic legends, Homer (the poet), King Midas, Heredotus (the father of history), St. Paul the Apostle and Santa Claus The First Ecumenical Council was held in Iznik, Turkey.

The first university in history is in Harran, Turkey  Antalya Museum was rewarded by the European Council as the best museum of Europe in 1988. In Antalya, in the spring time you can both ski in the mountains & swim on the coast. Lydia which is one of the greatest civilization lived in Anatolia has still got some remainings around Salihli (Sardis) and it's the first civilization which coined money. Virgin Maryspent her last days at an house situated on the top of Bülbüldag (Ephesus) which is considered to be a holy place for all religions. Seven Churches of Revelation are all in Aegean Region in Turkey (Ephesus, Sardis, Tyatira, Pergamon, Philadelphia, Smyrna, Collosae). Female goddesses dominated the Central Anatolian  pantheon forthousands of years before these supernatural powers were transformed to male gods.
