  4. Homework Read chapter 2 and complete worksheet for chapter 1

President Project: • Get in groups and look over the poster requirements. • Decide which items each person will cover. • Put name on sticky note and place it on that item. • Whichever parts your covering, is your responsibility to provide text evidence. • Text Evidence: • Title of your source, • date of publication, • a direct quote, • and page number. • Divisions in Group: • My President’s Family and President Picture (scrap book). • Time line (Dates, pictures of important events during his presidency). • Fact File and Monument design and create a book (stapled together: Cover design, table of contents (3-5 chapter of important events and a paragraph representing each chapter). • Interview: Create an audio file of you playacting the interview or a ppt with pictures of you playacting).

  6. Homework: Research your part of the group presidential project.

  7. What is the author’s purpose of this article? • Highlight phrases that support your answer. • Number the ways in which Hershey plans to switch to Fair Trade Chocolate. • Do you know what “Not in Harry’s Name means”? “A Chocolaty Similarity: Raising the Fair Trade Bar to Hershey”

  8. Read the article and underline what “Not in Harry’s Name” means according to the author. • What is the author wanting Warner Bros. to do according to this article? Use text evidence to support your answer. • Is it possible to eat chocolate not produced from child labor. Explain using text evidence. “The Fans Have Spoken: Not In Harry’s Name”

  9. On a sticky note, answer the following question: Based on what you have learned, will you eat all brands of chocolate in the future? Is the chocolate still sweet?

Goal: Ending Child Labor • Highlight the problem. • Underline the three solutions to the problem. • Highlight words and phrases that prove indicate the author’s voice. • On a sticky note explain the author’s beliefs using text evidence to prove your thinking. Identifying author’s voice, the way the author talks about a subject, which reveals the author’s personality as well as his or her beliefs and feelings about the subject.

  11. Complete your graphic organizer for the topic “The Need to End Child Labor.” “Support Your Reason” with text evidence from your research. You must have something from at least three different sources to back up your reasoning. Write your claim on a sticky note and place on organizer.
