  3. Introduction • Problem Statement: Design and build a device that will transfer either a cart or ball for a duration of about 15 seconds. • AKA a 15 second long rollercoaster

  4. Design • Base • Made of PVC Pipes • Weighted down by sand bags • Track • Clear plastic hose • Filled with blue water • Sealed off by valves • “Cart” • Ball bearing painted neon orange • Destination • PVC pipes taped to the floor

  5. How it works • The ball is released at the top of the hose and continues down the tube until it reaches the end • Without the water, we tested it and it ran through in roughly 1.5 seconds • The water acts as a drag force to slow down the ball during the decent

  6. Energy Conversion • Initial Potential Energy = Final Kinetic Energy + Energy Loss Due to Water • The energy loss due to water is huge, which makes the time difference with and without water so large
