  3. Characterization Warm-up Direct Characterization: the process by which the personality of a fictitious character is revealed by the use of description. What is directly stated about the character in the text. Dill is introduced on page 4 Physical description: Little, blue linen shorts that buttoned to the shirt, snow-white hair that stuck to his head like duck-fluff, blue eyes… Personality traits: happy, eccentric Actions or other information from chapter 1: Can read, from Meridian, Mississippi, spending the summer with his aunt, Miss Rachel, family was originally from Maycomb, his mother worked for a photographer in Meridian, he won a Beautiful Child contest, has seen Dracula, no father, wants Boo Radley to come out

Characterization Warm-up Indirect Characterization: the process by which the personality of a fictitious character is revealed through the character's speech, actions, appearance, etc. Dill says this… “Let’s try to make him come out. I’d like to see what he looks like.” Dill’s character trait(s) revealed by this is(are)… Fearless, daredevil, curious, brave Dill does this… Dill’s mother gave him five dollars and he went to the picture show 20 times on it. Dill’s character trait(s) revealed by this is(are)… Dill is imaginative. Seeing movies appeals to his sense of adventure and imagination.
