  3. Week 1: Introduction Your task is to plan a dinner party for eight people – yourself and seven guests. You may choose the guests you wish to invite. The guests must come from at least 3 different groups from the following list. Family Friends Music and film Sport Heroes Leaders Literature Business Teachers You must produce a PowerPoint page with a portrait of each guest, including their name and a brief statement on why you have invited them. When you have selected your guests, consider carefully what their special dietary needs are. For example, some religious faiths forbid followers to eat certain foods.

Week 2: Plan a Menu Plan a dinner party menu for 8 people to include: Pre-dinner nibbles Entrée / soup Main course Dessert Drinks (This is an alcohol-free dinner party) Tea / coffee To do this you will need to: Select appropriate recipes Calculate quantities of ingredients to feed 8 Plan for items such as serviettes, etc Use Word, Publisher or PowerPoint to publish your menu and recipes.   5. Weeks 3 & 4: Shop Online You must shop online for your dinner party ingredients. Use both Woolworths and Coles Onlineshopping websites to find prices. You must compare prices in order to save yourself money. Your first task is to prepare a shopping list for each course – eg. a main course shopping list, a dessert shopping list, etc. Use Excel to prepare the list. Your spreadsheet will need 6 columns – they are: Item Quantity Unit Cost (Woolworths) Total Cost (Woolworths) Unit Cost (Coles) Total Cost (Coles) Click here for further instructions

  6. Weeks 3 & 4 (cont.): Shop Online You need to calculate a subtotal for each component of the menu, as well as an overall cost for your dinner party. Use the Chart Wizard of Excel to create a pie graph showing the percentage cost of each course of the dinner party. Use either Word, Publisher or PowerPoint to present a visual display of the items you are purchasing and cost details. Click here to return to previous page

  7. Week 5: Prepare a Timeline Your task is to present a timeline for your preparation of the dinner courses on the day of the event. For example, at what time would you begin peeling potatoes, when you make the dessert, and when would you put the roast in the oven? What time would each course be served? Use Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Paint to show this dinner party timeline.

  8. Week 6: Putting it All Together Your task is to be creative and add flair to your dinner party presentation. This will allow you to create one or more documents which highlight: Your guest list The menu The recipes Shopping list – quantities and prices Extras – eg. invitation

  9. Week 7: Show and Tell This week we will view each others’ dinner party presentations and enjoy them. At the completion of the session you must email all documents you have been asked to complete to Mr Feben or Mr Chapman so it can be assessed.
