Strategies For College Success:Course Management DAY ONE! • The following show represents items that need to be addressed with the students on Day One. • Class Call Number. • The time the class meets. • Your name.   2. Who are you and why are you here? • Go around the room introducing yourselves and answering this question. • Tell the truth. • No one is judging you! • Make name tags.

  3. The name of your lab. • You will experience success here! • You will be able to use the materials and skills you learn here immediately! • The web-site address that the class will use here.

  4. Books • Longs, UBX, Campus Bookstore & SBX • Hope Book • Learning and Motivation Book & Notebook • *Web & Notebook overrides book.

  5. Food & Drinks • Your lab food and drink rules here. Below are examples. • No food in the lab. • No liquids in the lab. • Except for water that is in a container with a lid.

  6. Headsets • Your lab headset rules. Below are examples. • No headsets are permitted without special permission from the instructor. • There is one assignment where you will need earphones. • I will let you know in advance if you want to use your own.

  7. Printer • Your printer location. • Your printer rules.

  8. Lab Hours • Your lab hours. • Your special things to remember about your lab.

  9. RINNNNNNG! • No cell phones or pagers in the lab!!!

  10. Office Hours • Your office room number. • Your phone #. • Your office hours. • Your e-mail address. • Any special notes about your availability.

  12. What is an excused absence? • Your excused absence policy.

  13. Late Work • Your late work policy. • Ex. 5 point deduction for one class late. • Ex. Please do not give me stories! • Ex. If you were sick… • Staple a doctors note to paper. • Ex. If you were at a funeral… • Staple a funeral program. • Ex. If you are an athlete… • Let me know this week about all events concerning class.

  14. Plagiarism • You will be prosecuted! • Your schools plagiarism policy.

  15. Computers are Public • No: • Flaming • Pornography • Gambling • Music Sharing • No Solitaire • Other Bad Acts

  16. There are seats left! • Tell your friends to join the class! • Only us if this applies.

  17. Easy A? • This class is rumored to be an easy “A”. • It’s not what you deserve, it is what you earn! • This class is also an easy “E”? • Your work must be done on time or Else!

  18. Closing Time & Due Dates • Plan ahead! • Papers are due at the opening meeting. • Papers are late at the conclusion of the opening meeting.

  20. Procrastination • Poor planning on your part does not equal an emergency on mine. • This class runs at a marathon pace. • Methodically • Consistently

Expectations • Attendance & Late Policy • On time: • At the exact time that the class starts. • Late: • Arrive after the opening meeting attendance. • If you do this you need to personally see me to get credit for arrival. • Absent: • If you leave before the closing meeting. • Complete all assignments. • Your additional expectations.

  22. More on Attendance • Your attendance policy. Below is an example. • You will be given a name card when you arrive. • Opening meeting leftover name cards must be retrieved from me directly. • All name cards collected at the end of class are present for that day. • Daily points • 2 for opening meeting. • 3 for closing meeting.

  23. Pacing • This class starts out slow but quickly speeds up to a sprint!
