  4. Kiwanis International Purpose: To improve lives through fellowship in service worldwide. Defining Statement: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Motto: Serving the children of the world

Kiwanis International • Kiwanis International was founded in 1915 • There are 8,400 Kiwanis clubs in 96 countries • Pierce Kiwanis Club belongs to the Nebraska/Iowa District • Pierce Club belongs to Division 18: Norfolk Morning, Norfolk Noon, Pierce, Columbus and Wayne Clubs • Pierce Club Chartered 2003 • Current Membership 23

  6. Pierce Kiwanis Activities • PEAK (Pierce Excited About Kids) Events for different age groups Hawaiian & Halloween themes. Both an activity for kids and fund raiser (500-600 kids benefited) • Literacy for Little Ones- distributed books to ages 1-5 (200 books) • Christmas K Tree- collected clothing for less fortunate (50+fam) • Present at Home Show-with State Patrol, made child ID’s (50+) • Wrote a grant to help fund a new playground • Provided K Bears to law enforcement to distribute (150 K Bears) • Trash pickup • Kiwanis float in parade • Countywide Smoke Detector Distribution (250 contacts)

  7. Pierce Kiwanis Fund Raisers • PEAK charged $2 to attend $ 160 • Peanuts sales (one day) $1,370 • With the Chamber of Commerce, held a street dance $ 680 • Skip a meal $ 422 • Total Activity Fund $2,632

Ways to improve your attendance • Visit another Kiwanis Club meeting • Attend a Board Meeting • Help with a Kiwanis Club activity • Interclubbing* • *Four from your club traveling to a Kiwanis meeting, convention, K activity • Help with any Kiwanis Club Project • Attend a District/National Conference or Convention • Attend a Kiwanis leadership training secession

  11. Interclubbing • Four Kiwanis members visit another Kiwanis meeting • Credit is received for mileage traveled • Extra credit if a program is given • Each year, the NE/IA District holds an interclubbing contest (members attending x miles traveled)

  17. Board of Directors Meeting Provides an opportunity to be involved in the decisions affecting club administration. Day: 1st Wednesday Time: 5:15 PM Location: Town and Country

  18. Finances/Budgeting • Administrative Account • Income from club dues, meal charges, new member fees. • Service Account • Income from public fund-raising projects or contributions and cannot be used to pay administrative expenses of the club.

  19. Club Fees • How My Dues Are Spent • Club Dues: $31 • District Dues: $25 • Kiwanis International Dues:$64 • (includes $19.90 for Kiwanis magazine) • Total Annual Dues: $120

  20. Conventions TheAnnual Kiwanis International Conventionis an excellent event, which allows clubs from around the world to exchange ideas, participate in forums, and share fellowship. TheDistrict Conventionis the kickoff for the new Kiwanis year, which runs from October to September. Club officers and interested members attend. TheDistrict Mid Year Conferencegives members an opportunity to attend classes and forums about club operation and other exciting topics.

Becoming a Distinguished Club • Service: • Sponsor a K family organization: i.e. Circle K or Aktion Club (10) • Contribute $5/ member to Kiwanis International Foundation (10) • Participate in Young Children: Priority One Program (10) • Education: • New member orientation program (10) • Represented at mid-year conference and District convention (10) • Represented at a Club Leadership Education training session (10) • Growth: • Have a net gain in membership plus at least one additional member (20) • Have a least 80 total points
