Purpose Statement: Victor valley college endeavors to provide students with the best possible training in job-related skills. This is accomplished by a combination of qualified instructors; Up-to-date text and related media; Relevant curriculum; And through a “real world” laboratory environment.
Qualified Instructors: In addition to California state requirements, instructors for the victor valley college automotive department are expected to have current certifications, licenses and work experience directly related to the course(s) that they teach (i.e. SAE/ NATEF/ clean-air smog-tech certification).
Text and Related Media: VVC has a textbook review committee that offers the latest textbooks, workbooks and instructor manuals. In addition, Instructors can supplement with their own, personal choice of text materials. Big-Screen/ VRC/ Computer integrated systems are available for the classroom environment, as well as normal white and blackboards and necessary supplies.
Curriculum: Each instructor, in conjunction with an advisory board of department and industry members, must submit curriculum to The Victor Valley College Curriculum Committee for approval for content and objectives. This curriculum is to be updated and approved, bi-annually.
Laboratory: The Laboratory resources provide the student with basic and special tools, recommended by the advisory boards and industry certifying agencies, for “real-world” type training. (as best as budget allowances can provide). “out-sourcing” from donations and grants, supplement this lab-environment. Off-campus classes held in local business are often utilized, as well as on-the-job course credits.
Advisory Committee: Victor Valley College Advisory Boards are composed of Instructors and Local Related-industry representatives that screen potential new instructors; provide direction and input for curriculum and text; review and procure laboratory tools and equipment needs.
Support Personnel: Each Department hires students for tool and equipment personnel, in capacities related to their direction of study. Full time Teaching Assistant III personnel are hired for their background and certifications pertaining to the department in which they support.
Additional Library Support: Text and video resources are provided in the Victor Valley College Main Library, by Board approved instructor’s request.
Instructor’s Personal Resources: Instructors may supplement the teaching and laboratory environment by eliciting outside resources, such as manufactures of tools and equipment, or their own personal tools and equipment. Donations to the school, most often, come from instructor contacts.
