  4. Why? • The Vietnam War holds an interesting place in history. • Longest war until recently. • Similarities to today’s war. • Also has a vague withdrawal.

  7. Conclusion • The Tet Offensive was a major surprise whose effect could be felt throughout the upper echelons of Washington. Johnson’s administration was forced to take a hard look at the current state in Vietnam and came to the conclusion that their current path would only lead to a prolonged stalemate. The only two options were dramatic escalation, or de-escalation until an eventual withdraw.
